Tethering your iPhone has been an up hill battle for a ton of people especially those on AT&T data plans. Unfortunately every attempt to make a tethering app on a none jail broken iPhone is meet with strict hammer and the app’s are usually quickly deleted and never seen again on the apple store.

How to Tether my iPhone?
There is ways around this just make sure you are fine with your phone being unlocked as you will not be able to update to the latest apple software, and support is limited to really you researching how to fix problems..but to the home brew crowd its a win win. So if you download and run Cydia (Unlocks your iPhone) you can find an application named MyWi 5.0. It is the most popular and probably the easiest to work with on the cydia marketplace. The app takes your 3G connection and turns it into a wifi hotspot for your phone to use as a connection. The only reason why we recommend this option is that AT&T offers Tethering as an add on for $45/month and the app is only $19.99 in a one time fee. And of course it works for the iPad as well. This cydia app works with all jailbroken iPhones (including 2G/3G/3GS/4) and iPad on 3.1.2 or later. Some more features you want to take a look at is:

What is iPhone Tethering? believe it or not the question is more common than you think. It is basically a practice in which the user can harness the use of his iphone/ipad/itouch and use the phone as a modem to connect his/her computer to the internet using the phone as its connection.

Tethering is a common technique usually used by people on the go or travels with out a wifi hotspot to connection too which can be very helpful. The connection is typical slower than your wifi because it is using the phones 3G access to connect. Now, not ALL carriers allow tethering and with out the right data plan misuse of the service can result in a HUGE bill.

Requirements
To use iPhone tethering, you must have an iPhone 3GS or higher, running iOS 4 or higher, with a data plan that supports tethering.

Costs
Both AT&T and Verizon, the iPhone carriers in the U.S., offer data plans that include tethering starting at an additional US$20/month over the user’s existing data plan. AT&T’s unlimited data plan is not available for users with tethering enabled.

Personal Hotspot
While tethering is the general name for this functionality, Apple’s implementation of it, and how its onscreen iOS functions are labeled, is called Personal Hotspot.
